Banana display at Lyon Arboretum all June!

New publication on Hawaiian names for plants

I am happy to announce that a project over twenty years in the making has come to fruition with the publication of an annotated list of Hawaiian names of plants, originally drafted by the famous botanist Joseph Rock in 1920, but never published. Hawaiian name for Seagrass?

Anybody know the Hawaiian name for Hawaiian seagrass Halophila hawaiiana? It is also listed as Halophila ovalis ssp. hawaiiana (Doty & B.C. Stone) den Hartog. Given how widespread it is in places such as Maunalua Bay, you would think it has an inoa Hawaii... I recall how long it took to find the inoa Hawaii for Cressa truxillensis. Anybody know the name for that one? I found it in the diary of a botanist visiting Moloka'i in the 1800's. aloha 'Ohu

Where can I buy an Abutilon?

of any native species, though menziesii would be nice... I can't seem to find it, but I understand that people do sometimes sell it.. anyone know where? Ive wanted to try growing them for a while. Oh by the way, I stay Hilo and O`ahu. Mahalo!!
