    • Yes, this was last yearʻs message, but YES we are resuming class this year as well, Jan 12, 6PM, Center for Hawaiian Studies, auditorium (rm 101) downstairs. Park on the street on Dole if you donʻt want to pay $3 to UH parking... Please do sit in if you can.

      • Oh, it is a good news. Thank you so much for the reply.
May I ask you one more question? Is "Center for Hawaiian Studies" called the building of "Kamakakūokalani(Hawaiian Studies) building", on the Dole Street, also D-6 in the UH campus map? Is that the one? I want to just make sure because I am not familiar with the campus.
Anyway, thank you for allowing me to sit in the class!! I am not only good at Hawaiian but also English... :<) So I am worried that I can follow... However, Iʻll do my best! :-)
        Mahalo e Kumu ʻOhu !

  • Aloha and mahalo plenty for carrying on Kumu's work ! I really miss him -

how much is it and how often will it be?
  • I would like to sign up for these classes if possible.
I live on the Big Island but would be willing to fly in, if I could take the beginning classes and at least "sit-in" to observe the advanced class to make the trip worthwhile.

    Mahalo,

    • Aloha e Pomaika'i:

Aue, the classes are designed to run over the course of a standard academic semester, so that would make it really expensive for you to air-commute. That is, unless you are already flying in weekly for other reasons! I might suggest that you contact our sibling halau in Hilo, led by Kumu John Ku'uhoamele Cuban. I don't think he has a Maoliworld presence yet, but email me at ohukaniohia@gmail.com and I can give you his email address. He might be willing to sit with you and share the basic oli set that we use at Pu'u Kohola heiau and other places.

Let me know if any of this seems like it might work. Your desire to learn oli is appreciated very much.
