Iwi Kupuna at Kawaiahao Protected (for now)

The Wahine (many know her, but, left her name out to adhere to the rules I just read for the site) who put herself out there to save her Iwi Kupuna and all of ours is to be commended for hanging in there all these years and doing what needed to be done (legally) to protect our Iwi Kupuna.  I watched her, stood in her corner as she educated, pleaded, protested without arrogance, yes, frustrated at times, but, more hurt nor for her, but, for our Iwi Kupuna.

She and a few Ho'ailona have led me back to this site to check in and see how our Kanaka Maoli are doing?

If you are a part of this site, my assumption is that many on here are doing what we can in our parts of Hawaii Nei to progress forward.

  • Kaylin Austin,

I so apologize to you for not really seeing the concerns of our iwi through your 'lens'.  Why? We, including myself (ego) are part of the problem.  For, not seeing the origins of the problem and calculating the need to step up on a pedestal and to grand slamming with out concern to the details of the problems.

Firstly, this issue was discussed and voted upon in the 70s by your so-called 'unity' leaders.  I never agreed to their decisions to their faces!  Secondly, Na Kanaka agreed to development in the 80's and now the question arrives to the real truth--money or sacred grounds?  Thirdly, the super-egos slamming contently--but not really had any in understanding Section 106 and giving other voices a chance to bring what happened in the decision making processes up to the edge of Kawaiahao.

There is not much I can say about Kawaiahao and Protecting our 'iwi' except to say that the decisions were made by native Hawaiians that lacked respect to sacred grounds in the first place.  Are you not wanting to get into the battles with other Hawaiians?

The only way this problem can be resolved is to trample on the bull shit that's on the ground.  I am not asking you to do this either!  But, get pass the Na Kupuna ku kai and read section 106 because that is where the rights of our sacred grounds exist!  Too bad it's in the system that I personally do not acknowledge as my governing system.  But, it makes good reading!

With this background knowledge of section 106, go to protest and be one unified member.  Not easy to do when superegos are flying all over the 'fricken'  place!  Follow protocols and stay safe!
